Having been Installed into the Chair of Kennet Lodge on Wednesday evening, I was out visiting Bracknell Lodge the very next night.
Visiting Bracknell Lodge 6792 Installation
The new Master, W.Bro R Sexton was installed by the outgoing W.Bro Mahdavi. It was enjoyable to see the Inner Workings for the first time (well, not including my Installation into the Chair the night before!), especially as English was not the Installing Master’s first language. After being presented with his Past Master’s Jewel he explained to the Brethren that he joined Freemasonry after deciding to stay in the UK rather than return to his native Iran.
The Lodge was attended by W.Bro L Starling, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Berkshire.
Wokingham is an excellent centre which I have attended a couple of time before. My only advice would be to ensure you get there early to get parking, but then don’t rush to leave at the end because you’ll likely be blocked in by the last people who parked!
The Festive Board was really fun, and it was good to meet up with other visiting Masters, and take part in the “Master’s Swindle”, a competition in which all the visiting Masters of other Lodge put £2 in a pot and guess how long the new Master’s speech will last. The winner then donates his winnings to the new Master to put towards his charity, giving him a good start to the year. I didn’t win it!
One minor grip was no Master’s Song at the Festive Board. Having it sung to me by the Brethren of the Lodge made a big impact on me the previous night, so it was a shame that the new Master didn’t have the same experience.
It was a good time visiting Bracknell Lodge, and no doubt they will have a good year with W.Bro Sexton in the Chair.
